Adnams Broadside Review
Since it is the holiday season, LCBO has gotten a ton of new products they usually don't carry. On my last trip to the local store, I came across the Adnams display. At first I thought that the name was misspelled and it was actually Adams, but no, Adnams is a brewery and has been producing a range of beers since 1890. Out of the 9 or so beers the brewery produces, the Broadside is the only one available in Ontario, Canada. The beer is not exactly cheap at $3.25 per 500 mL bottle, but at least it is strong.
The beer pours smoothly with a thin head, which settles to a tan ring with a small amount of bubbles in the middle. It has a dark, walnut brown color with some red hues. The aroma is sweet with hints of hops and roasted nuts. The beer is slightly carbonated and the taste is quite bold and bitter from the hops. Some sweetness emerges but is quickly subdued by the bitter, dry and hoppy finish. This is a pretty good beer and the 6.3% ABV is nicely masked, but the bitterness might be a tad too much for some.
Scores:
Cost - $3.25 CAD for a 500 mL bottle
Taste - 7.9/10
Overall - 7.9/10...has a great, bold taste, but it might be too bitter for some. Try the Mill Street Tankhouse Ale for comparison
