La Chouffe Blonde Review

Yes, that's a 750 mL bottle of 8% Belgian beer and no, it is not expensive. It cost me only $6.25.

Being a strong, Belgian Blonde beer, it is hazy and has a honey golden color. It pours with a medium thick, creamy and lacy head which recedes in a few minutes. The aroma is crisp and very citrusy with distant hints of malt, hops and a just a bit of yeast. If you can get past the standard beer parts of the aroma, the rest reminds be a lot of champagne. The taste is a lot more beer-like with malt, wheat, citrus and herbs like clove. The finish shows some hops in addition to the herbs and citrus. It is crisp and even a little sweet. In the long run, it starts to become acidic, once again reminding me of champagne. The high alcohol content does not show in neither the aroma nor the taste, but it does creep up on. Overall, I enjoyed this very much and would buy it again as it is surprisingly refreshing for a strong Belgian beer.

Scores:
Cost - $6.25 for a 750 mL bottle
Taste - 8.8/10
ABV - 8.0%

Overall - 8.9/10...I feel like giving it an extra 0.1 for the crisp, refreshing taste
