La Vache Folle Imperial Milk Stout Review

This one comes straight from Baie-Saint Paul, Quebec from my trip to Montreal. I got this from the awesome beer store at 2500 Rachel East, Montreal. The bottle is $4.99 which is not too bad for something this awesome looking. This isn't really made with milk, but with lactose and has a low IBU of 10.

Being a stout, the beer is pitch black and pours with a thick, creamy tan head which takes a couple of minutes to recede and show its mild laciness. The stout has a sour, milky aroma with some subtle chocolate and coffee notes. The taste is smoky with a ton of bitter coffee and dark chocolate tones which blend into a not so sweet chocolate mocha combination and very little milkiness. The finish is on the malty, smoky side with quite a bit of coffee, some chocolate and a touch of burnt malt. The smokiness lingers for a long time with subtle coffee notes protruding at times. The high 9% ABV is almost unnoticeable in the taste, but it sure is in the effects on the brain. I really liked the smokiness along with the bold coffee taste, but I really wished I had something like a nice cigar to go along.

Scores:
Cost - $4.99
Taste - 7.9/10
ABV - 9%

Overall - 8/10...this deserves an extra 0.1 for its ability to mask the 9% ABV
