Southern Tier Unearthly Review
Last year I tried Southern Tier's Gemini, which is part Unearthly and enjoyed it very much. However, I never got the chance to try each of the beers used in the Gemini on their own...until now with the start of the spring LCBO releases. The Unearthly is one of the first beers to hit the shelves and at almost $10 per bottle, it is very pricey.
The beer has a hazy honey color and pours with a short head, which recedes quickly. The aroma is sweet and hoppy with a bit of honey and tropical fruits. The flavour is strong and complex and similar to the aroma but with a boozy undertone. Pine, grapefruit and honey can be noted, but the booziness and sheer hopiness overpower it. The finish is medium to long, warm and bittersweet with more of the hops and a nice honey twist at the very end.
This is definitely a sipper, but if you like hoppy beers, do try this one. I recommend a bottle at a time.
Scores:
Cost - $9.10
Taste - 7.5/10
ABV - 9.5%
Overall - 7.5/10...hoppy and boozy - a pretty decent warmer
