Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Pale Ale Review
Today is time for Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Pale Ale. You cannot buy this beer from the LCBO, but you can get the Samuel Smith Selection box for a limited time for $13.95 CAD. The gift box contains 3 Samuel Smith brews, a nice branded pint glass, 2 coasters and a brochure with various beers Merchant du Vin imports into America.
The beer pours smoothly with a very short, lacy head. The color is absolutely beautiful - dark amber with red and brown hues. The aroma is even better with hints of sweet died fruits, a touch of caramel and some spices. The beer has a creamy mouth feel and its taste is not as sweet as the aroma. It has a bite from the fruits and the spices with a barely noticeable caramel undertone. The finish is absolutely fantastic though. It is medium long, very hoppy and bitter. I love the finish. The experience of relaxing after a sip and savoring the taste is quite enjoyable. I took small sips and took my time finishing the bottle, savoring the finish. A fantastic experience, but too bad this is not sold at the LCBO all year long. On the negative side, I thought the carbonation was a tad too much.
Scores:
Cost - $13.95 CAD for the Samuel Smith Selection gift box
Taste - 8.3/10
Overall - 8.4/10...I am feeling generous and I love the finish, which is why I am giving it an extra 0.1
