Caffrey's Premium Draught Beer Review

This little guy appeared on the LCBO shelves not too long ago. This weekend I finally had the chance to get a pack and try it. At 4% ABV and 440 mL per can, I was expecting this to taste a lot like Tetley's. The price is similar too - $9.60 for a 4 pack.

Just like Tetley's, the opening of the tap was followed by the release of some nitrogen and some foam coming out of the mouth hole. The beer poured with the traditional very thick and creamy head which quickly started to recede from the bottom up revealing the the beautiful amber color of the brew. There isn't much to the aroma other than some sweet notes of toasted malt. The beer is very smooth and barely carbonated so it almost feels like water going down. There is some flavour, but compared to other similar ales, it lacks character. The taste is mostly of sweet, toasted malt with some hops at the end. The finish is short to medium, slightly dry and has a touch of hops. Thought this lacks character, I find it quite irresistible. I was able to consume 3 of the 4 beers at the end of a long night of drinking and did not feel sick. At that time, all 3 cans tasted like water. This might become my new session ale thanks to its overall smoothness, subtle flavour and affordable price.

Scores:
Cost - $9.60 CAD for a 4 pack
Taste - 8.2/10

Overall - 8.2/10...not much flavour, but it's incredibly smooth and will become my new session ale
