Hitachino Nest Real Ginger Brew Review
So I have never had a ginger beer before and when I saw this, I knew I had to get a bottle. I am not a huge fan of ginger in my drink, but I am willing to try new stuff. The bottle is pricey at $3.95 CAD for 330 mL, but at least it is strong at 7% ABV.
Surprisingly the beer is ruby red in color and pours with almost no head, just an off-white ring. The aroma is refreshing and inviting with notes of ginger, spices and citrus. The ginger dominates the taste, but malty beer notes make their way through. Hints of dried fruits blend, spices and herbs also come out and compliment the ginger taste. The finish is warm, medium and spicy. The high ABV is noticeable, but masked much better than many of the stronger brews. Overall, this is a solid exotic beer, but the high price might get in the way of me buying more of these in the future. I might just get a few to keep in the house for future guests.
Scores:
Cost - $3.95 CAD for a 330 mL bottle
Taste - 7.9/10
Overall - 7.9/10...well executed exotic brew with the spiciness of ginger
