Duchy Organic Old Ruby Ale Review

The first thing I noticed about this was the large 1905 number on the label. What is 1905? Well, it is an English barley first used in 1905 called Plumage Archer. A 500 mL bottle of Duchy Organic Old Ruby Ale retails for $3.35, but I got it on sale for $2.95.

At first I thought that this beer will be pale straw in color, but it actually is a ruby ale. It is amber, with heavy red hues. The head is short and lacy and the aroma is a combination of malts and hops with a sweet, dried fruit-like tone. The ale is lightly carbonated and the taste is earthy with hints of roasted nuts and malt with a subtle sweet undertone. The finish is where this beer excels. It is medium, hoppy, well balanced with also a subtle sweet note, which compliments everything else perfectly. Overall, this is a solid ale, which you should try.

Scores:
Cost - $3.35 for a 500 mL bottle
Taste - 8.4/10

Overall - 8.5/10...love that finish and I think that it deserves an extra 0.1
