Amsterdam Strong Framboise Beer Review
Amsterdam, the good brewers in Toronto, recently started selling one of their fruit beers in glass bottles which come in 4 packs. Up until this point, they have been selling their Framboise beer in nice ceramic bottles. Each 4 pack retails for $11.95, which is a bit steep, but keep in mind that this is a strong beer at 6.5% ABV.
As expected from raspberry beers, its color is red. But unlike a lot of similar fruit beers, this one has a lot of amber to it. There is almost no head and the aroma has a nice raspberry punch to it, yet retains a lot of the non-fruit beer characteristics. The taste is tart with subtle hints of raspberries and some malt. It is more carbonated than expected, which takes some of the flavour away. Once down, the finish is fruity, crisp with a slightly hoppy character. Overall the beer is not as sweet as some of the other fruit beers and the higher alcohol content is well masked. I found the beer very refreshing and I will definitely buy it again if I am ever in the mood for a fruit beer.
Scores:
Cost - $11.95 for a 4 pack
Taste - 8.2/10
Overall - 8.2/10...solid fruit beer
