Old Credit Brewing Pale Pilsner Review

This beer comes in OCB's Discovery pack 7, which retails for $12.60. The beer is also available in single 680 mL bottles for $3.25 each, a pretty solid deal if you are into this style of beer.

The beer is pale straw in color, hazy, and pours with a thin, very lively head, which disappears in seconds. The aroma is a bit of a surprise. Though it has a lot of the typical malty and cereal notes, it also has strong floral hints with some apples. The taste is not as unique and great as the aroma and left me a bit disappointed. Grassy and cereal notes are present throughout with a very subtle hint of malt. The finish is dry and crisp with flavours present in the aroma. The one thing I enjoyed the most was the wait between each sip, during which time the finish transitioned from fairly mediocre to decent. The apple and floral hints blended well enough to give the beer an enjoyable and unique finish. Sadly, the taste is what matters the most, and that is nothing to brag about.

Scores:
Cost - $12.60 for the discovery pack, $3.25 for the 680 mL bottle
Taste - 7.2/10 for the finish, 5.8/10 overall
ABV - 5%

Overall - 5.8/10...a misleadingly pleasant aroma, mediocre taste and a decent finish

  1. A lot of professional enthusiasts can't rate this beer well because it doesn't fit properly in to any category.

This beer is a work of genius in my opinion. It's a hybrid beer no doubt. Labeled as pale pilsner but was originally considered a blond when it was created. Even then as a blond it's almost a perfect spilt between a blond ale and blond pilsner.

I've been drinking this beer for a little under a year now. Usually I change my drinking habits every 3 months. I'm pretty certain that this beer has a permanent home with me.

    A First class brew!
