Celebrator Doppelbock Review
Here is another one of LCBO's fall releases - the eye catching Celebrator Doppelbock. OK, it is eye catching only because of the sweet plastic goat that I will hang on my bookshelf. The label itself is pretty nice too. Well, enough of this, lets get down to business.
The beer very dark brown, almost black when poured in a glass. The head is about finger thick, dark and quickly recedes to a nice ring around the edges of the glass. The aroma is spicy with sweet malt, chocolate and fruit notes. Surprisingly the mouth feel is very creamy and the taste is nowhere near as sweet as I had expected. It is dominated by dark chocolate and coffee notes with some smokiness. Some sweet malt and dried fruits can be tasted towards the end, but the bitterness overpowers them. The finish is dry, semi-warm, just a bit spicy, and with a lot more of the smoky chocolate/coffee notes, which linger for a very long time. The ABV is at 6.9% but you will not be able to tell until you have finished the beer. Overall, this is a definite buy and a very strong recommendation.
Scores:
Cost - $3.60
Taste - 8.8/10
ABV - 6.9%
Overall - 8.9/10...that amazing finish deserves an extra 0.1
