Hockley Dark Review
Hockley Dark is a local ale brewed in Orangeville, Ontario. It sells for $2.65 CAD at some LCBO stores. It is recommended to drink this chilled, not cold. Recommended temperature is 8 - 10 Celsius. I kept mine in the fridge, but let is sit in the kitchen for about 45 minutes at room temperature before I opened it.
The beer is dark brown in color yet clear. It pours with a thick, creamy head which goes down in a few minutes. It has a chocolate scent with a hint of caramel and a bit of roasted nuts. It has a similar taste - heavy on the chocolate with a hint of nuts and a hoppy undertone. The finish is bitter, yet quite fresh. Overall a great dark beer with an excellent, well balanced taste.
Scores:
Cost - $2.65 CAD for a 473 mL can...I wish local beers came in 500 mL cans, sometimes I can really use the extra 27 mL
Taste - 8.2/10
Overall - 8.2/10...well balanced and might attract the attention of those who are not really into darker beers
