Innis & Gunn Winter Beer Review

I got this from the Innis & Gunn holiday gift set, which was given to me as a present...thoughtful, huh?

The winter ale is deep amber/walnut brown in color and pours with a thin, lightly off-white head. The aroma is typical for an innis & gunn ale with sweet dried fruits, raisins and a subtle woody, oak hint. The taste is sweet, but not as sweet as expected. The beer is malty with similar raisin and dried fruit hints and just a touch of caramel. There is a smoky character which adds a lot to the enjoyment with a very satisfying oaky, scotch-like finish. The beer is strong, but the 8.5% does not feel like 8.5. Overall, this has to be one of my favorite innis & gunn brew.

Scores:
Cost - $14.95 for the gift set
Taste - 8/10
ABV - 8.5%

Overall - 8/10...complex taste with a satisfying finish
