Railway City Seasonal Sham-Bock Review

I know this comes in late, but I have been so busy lately that I haven't had the chance to sort through my notes of various beers and other beverages. I promise to start doing a better job.

A friend of mine, who lives near Railway City Brewery, brought over a box of freshly brewed beers, one of which happened to be this fancy Sham-Bock. Currently the Sham-Bock is not sold in LCBO or beer stores, but perhaps it will be next year for St. Patricks.

The Sham-Bock is very dark, almost black in color. It reminds me of Coke. The beer pours with almost no head and has a roasted malt aroma with some subtle sweet hints of maple. The taste is similar to the aroma with a lot of roasted malt and nuts with just some sweet maple hints towards the end. The finish is malty, nutty and just a touch sweet. The beer reminds me of the Trafalgar Maple Bock I had a while ago, except it is a bit maltier and the flavor is not as bold. The 6.8% ABV is not noticeable in the taste at all as the sweet, nutty flavors manage to cover it well. Overall, this is a pretty smooth and easy going beer with some character though it does feel a but thin and watery.

Scores:
Cost - from brewery, unsure
Taste - 7.5/10
ABV - 6.8%

Overall - 7.5/10
