Lindemans Cuvee Rene Review
This is one of the fancier beers you can find at the LCBO this summer. It is so fancy that the bottle has been sealed twice - once with a large cap and once with a cork. Add the foil and you are looking at a very expensive beer...or so you would think. In reality this beer retails for $6.45, which may be a lot for some, but compared to other beers that have made appearances on the LCBO shelves, it seems fair.
This golden color brew pours with a lively head which quickly goes from a couple of fingers down to a small island. The aroma is earthy, a bit moldy and fairly uninviting due to its urine-like scent, but the taste makes up for it.
The beer is comparable to a very dry champagne with some pear, sour cherries and citrus notes - refreshing and very dry. The finish is what really does it for me. It is sour with a ton of fruits, crisp, dry and overall very refreshing. After a few sips you will forget that you are drinking a beer. If you like dry champagnes, then I strongly recommend this beer. Just be aware of its funky aroma.
Scores:
Cost - $6.45
Taste - 7.8/10
ABV - 5.5%
Overall - 7.8/10...excellent finish despite a funky, uninviting aroma
