Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale Review

Today I am having the last of the Samuel Smith brews from the holiday selection box. This is the only Samuel Smith beer the LCBO sells. The price? It is quite high at $3.65 CAD per bottle.

The beer has a fantastic mahogany color and pours with a medium thick, very creamy and lacy head. The aroma is exactly what one would expect from a beer called "Nut Brown Ale" - nutty. Roasted malt, a touch of coffee, chocolate and hops are also present. The mouth-feel is light to medium, a little watery, but that doesn't mean that the flavour is weak. Almonds, roasted malt/nuts, and a hint of coffee are present in the taste, which finishes on a bitter, more hoppy note. The taste, like I said is not weak, but it is weaker than other similar beers, which might be a good thing for some people. Since the mouth-feel is fairly light, I didn't notice how quickly I finished the beer.

Having had all three of the Samuel Smith brews, I like the Oatmeal Stout the most.

Scores:
Cost - $13.95 CAD for the selection/gift box
Taste - 7.8/10

Overall - 7.8/10...light mouth-feel, balanced taste
