Innis & Gunn Canada Day 2011 Review
Another year and another beer made specially for Canada Day 2011. Unlike last year's brew, this year's gets the name Canada Day 2011 and retails for the same old price of $4.95 for a single 330 mL bottle.
The beer has a very nice mahogany color and pours with a strangely white, thin head. The aroma is earthy with a bit of spices and light on the dried fruits and sweet malt. There is a very subtle hint of roasted nuts and just a touch of coffee. The taste is rich and creamy and very oaky with the malt and hops taking a backseat. Roasted nuts and sweet dried fruits are present, but not as pronounced as last year's beer. A nice addition to this year's beer is the presence of spices. The finish is warm and spicy with a nice oakiness. The 8.3% ABV is high, but it is very well masked by the complex flavour and cannot be noticed.
Overall, I enjoyed this year's Canada Day beer more than I did last year's and I will consider buying another bottle.
Scores:
Cost - $4.95
Taste - 8.5/10
ABV - 8.3%
Overall - 8.5/10...well balanced, not too sweet with a warm and spicy finish
