Grand River Brewing Highballer Pumpkin Ale Review

I first had this at a local pub so when I saw a freshly bottled batch at the near-by LCBO, I had to get a couple and review them. The beer that I am drinking while writing this review was bottled less than 2 days ago.

The Highballer Pumpkin Ale is amber in color and very clear. It pours with a short head, which recedes to a thin ring in no time. The aroma is very similar to Grand River's lager but with a very subtle spice character and even subtler pumpkin note. The taste is of mostly grains and hops with just a very light pumpkin pie tone. The finish is where the spice becomes more noticeable, but overall the pumpkin character is very subtle and not for those looking for something more obvious. When I had this on tap, it was much better with much more pronounced pumpkin flavour. The bottled beer is not a bad beer, but it is very weak on the pumpkin front.

Despite all this, I still had no problem finishing the bottles as Grand River Brewing make some excellent beers.

Scores:
Cost - $3.60
Taste - 6.1/10
ABV - 5.2%

Overall - 6.1/10...much better on tap, since the pumpkin character is very weak when bottled
